Moya not trying to replace Courtois

Miguel Angel Moya doesn’t expect Atletico Madrid fans to forget about Thibaut Courtois and insists he’ll approach goalkeeping in his own way.

Courtois spent three years on loan at Atletico from Chelsea but returned to his parent club for this season, having won the title before he displaced Petr Cech.

Moya was one of two goalkeepers signed by the champions – Benfica’s Jan Oblak the other – and has been given the nod to start by Diego Simeone.

“I don’t think people will forget Courtois, because he was a wonderful goalkeeper,” Moya said about his predecessor, according to AS.

“I’m Miguel Angel Moya and I try to do my job and help the team.”

Moya played a crucial role as Atletico beat Real Madrid on Saturday night at Santiago Bernabeu but deflected any individual praise sent his way.

“The win belongs to everyone. I made two different saves,” he continued.

“The first one was from the edge of the area where there were many barriers, many people, and until the last moment I couldn’t see the flight of the ball.

“And the second was to Karim Benzema with a good shot and I saved it low, that’s all, nothing more.”
