‘Madrid chose not to buy Falcao’

The father of Radamel Falcao has confirmed Real Madrid were in a position to sign the striker, but eventually chose not to.

Falcao instead joined Manchester United on a season-long loan from Monaco but had all summer been linked with a switch to Santiago Bernabeu.

Radamel Garcia added on Colombian radio that there is nothing he or his son can do since Madrid made their decision.

“Things didn’t happen with Madrid because…If you have money and go to the market to buy a shirt or pants, you have to decide whether or not to buy,” Marca reports Garcia as saying.

“Real Madrid chose not to and there’s nothing we can do.

“Besides, I don’t know, I get the feeling the player wanted to give away a number of things…they considered the shirt or pants they wanted and what was best and we must accept it, since it’s their money.

“Thank God everything happened with United. They are the most important team in England and one of the most powerful economically.”

Garcia also confirmed there had been interest in his son from Arsenal, Liverpool Manchester City and Juventus before the move to United came through.
