Gabi, Griezmann and Moya react

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has described his side’s Supercopa win over Real Madrid as very important.

The Rojiblancos, who are the League champions, defeated their cross-city rivals 2-1 over two legs to lift the first silverware of the 2014-15 Spanish season.

“It’s an important title and we continue to grow,” Gabi said after victory was confirmed. “Over two legs we can compete with anyone, in a League it is more difficult. It’s very important for us.”

New signing Antoine Griezmann meanwhile was impressed by both the Vicente Calderon crowd and strike partner Mario Mandzukic, who scored the winning goal.

“Our intention is to win every match,” he said. “I already knew what the crowd was like and it is impressive. Mandzukic was 10 out of 10.”

Goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya believes the Rojiblancos deserve a lot of credit for winning the Supercopa, despite the competition having its detractors.

“There are people who say the Supercopa is an inferior trophy but for us it has value, we have suffered for it.

“We will continue with our feet on the ground.”
