Mario: Madrid Supercopa favourites

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez believes Real Madrid are Supercopa favourites but adds his side can win if they’re true to themselves.

Mario has told AS that Los Blancos’ financial power – which allowed the signings of Keylor Navas, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez – is what tips the balance in favour of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

“They are slight favourites for all that can be spent, so they are [favourites]. They’re one of the most financially-powerful clubs out there,” Suarez said.

“It will be a tough game. We’re two teams who respect each other a lot. We arrive to the game well. Winning the Carranza gives us security. We really want to win.

“It’s going to be very difficult. We know them very well. They have signed great players and it will be a nice, hard, tough game.

“The team who make the fewer mistakes and concentrates more during the 180 minutes is the one more likely to take the trophy.

“We have a major trophy against our arch rivals and as always, we want to win with who we are and everyone knows that.”

Mario added that he feels Atletico’s pre-season preparations have gone well, with new arrivals bedding in, but insisted the work wasn’t over yet.

He also insisted he was fine after suffering a head injury in a friendly against Wolfsburg that saw him spend time in hospital in Germany.

“We continue to demonstrate strength as a team and we are very clear on how we play,” Mario continued.

“The new players have come, especially in attack, and we have to adapt to them and they to us. We have to keep working.

“I’ve got a good feeling and I’m in perfect condition. It was a shock and so I’m glad [the head injury] was nothing serious.”
