Shkodran Mustafi has described his move from Sampdoria to Valencia as ‘a step forward’ in his career.
World Cup winner Mustafi was today unveiled as a Valencia player and Marca reports the centre-back as expressing his excitement at his new club.
“I come to a great team where I will fight for a spot,” Mustafi said.
“My experience will be important. As I touched the grass of Mestalla I felt greatness.
“I’ve experienced three different countries that have taught me a lot.”
Mustafi revealed a call from Roberto Ayala is what convinced him to sign on with Valencia.
“Ayala’s call was very important to me. I hope to do the same as he did,” Mustafi continued.
“It was very important to talk to [Valencia Coach] Nuno. I got a great impression. I’ve yet to speak to my teammates.
“The most important thing is we are a team. That’s what Germany did at the World Cup. Valencia are a very big club.”
