Valencia target Mangala

Valencia are understood to be speaking to Manchester City over Eliaquim Mangala should Shkodran Mustafi leave Mestalla.

According to the Evening Standard, Germany international Mustafi is being targeted by Arsenal as they search for a new central defender following the recent injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel, with Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger keen to tie up a deal before the start of the new season.

However, any agreement could rest on whether Valencia bring in a suitable replacement and Mangala’s exclusion from City boss Pep Guardiola’s Champions League squad this week has put them on alert.

Mangala joined the Premier League outfit from Porto in 2014 for a reported €40m, but has failed to impress at the Etihad Stadium and it now appears he is surplus to requirements.

Los Che are believed to want the 25-year-old on loan, although City will push for a permanent deal to take the French international off their books after signing John Stones from Everton on Monday.
