‘In the eyes of Pepe I’m not human’

Seydou Keita has spoken further about the alleged incident of racial abuse involving Real Madrid defender Pepe.

The pair clashed during Madrid’s 1-0 defeat against Keita’s Roma and Keita alleged yesterday he had been racially abused by the Portugal defender during his days at Barcelona.

Keita refused to shake Pepe’s hand during the pre-match ceremony and later threw a water bottle at Pepe, and accused Pepe of spitting at him in the ensuing melee.

Marca reports Keita as revealing more about the claimed incident that started it all, writing on Twitter that Pepe used a racially abusive term towards him, as well as speaking to Afrik-foot.com.

“When I played for Barca he called me a monkey,” Keita said.

“This man is worth nothing. I haven’t talked about it in public because he’s not worth it and that’s why I didn’t shake hands with him before the friendly.

“I even told [Mehdi Benatia] about my intentions.

“It is unacceptable that another man spits at you. I don’t see why I should shake his hand as in his eyes I’m not a human being.

“I won’t talk with someone who does not consider me a human being. His behaviour is unacceptable. Instead of coming and wondering why I didn’t shake his hand, he preferred to spit.”
