Roma’s Seydou Keita has claimed he refused to shake hands with Pepe because he was racially abused by the Real Madrid defender in the past.
Keita declined to shake Pepe’s hand during the pre-match ceremony ahead of Roma’s win over Real Madrid in Dallas last night.
Former Barcelona man Keita was later seen throwing water at Pepe, which led to an unseemly incident in which it is alleged Pepe spat at Keita.
Keita has written on Twitter that Pepe racially abused him during a Clasico.
“1 He calls me a monkey during Madrid Barca 2 I did not shake his hand 3 He spits on me after I throw a bottle. I am sorry for my attitude,” Keita wrote.
