‘Sevilla ready to win Super Cup’

Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra believes his side are ready to face and beat Real Madrid in the European Super Cup.

The sides meet in Cardiff on August 12 and Iborra is relishing the prospect of competing for a trophy from the very start of the season.

“It’d be nice to start the season by winning a trophy,” he told AS.

“I think it’d be important for the rest of the season if we win, we can face it with confidence and peace of mind. We’re ready to win.”

Iborra praised Coach Unai Emery for his work last season, and thanked the fans for their support as well.

“Since coming Emery has improved the team, won a trophy, finished fifth and transmits values both within and outside the club and I will give my best for him,” Iborra said.

“For us the fans are very important. When we need that encouragement they give it to us and all our opponents know that our team have a hard support to face.

“We want to make them proud of us. We will give everything.”

Sevilla have this summer sold Ivan Rakitic and Iborra wished the former captain well, but backed Los Rojiblancos to cope without the Barca-bound midfielder.

“He was our captain and a very important person in the team,” Iborra said.

“But you have to go on. Sevilla have sold significant players and continued to be up there.”
