Suarez gets four-month ban

Luis Suarez has been handed a four-month worldwide ban after he was found guilty of biting Giorgio Chiellini.

The 27-year-old was playing in the World Cup for Uruguay on Tuesday when he appeared to bite the Italian defender.

Though the referee at the time missed the incident, FIFA have reviewed the video footage and ruled the Liverpool forward guilty.

As a result, Suarez will miss the rest of Uruguay’s World Cup campaign, starting with Saturday’s Round of 16 clash with Colombia. He is also forbidden from playing in any of the South Americans’ next nine international fixtures, whenever they may be.

As for his club involvement, the earliest he could return to action is October 27.

The former Ajax man has recently been linked with a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, but it remains to be seen whether FIFA’s ruling will have an effect on their interest in the player.
