Barcelona will look to Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera if Cesc Fabregas leaves the club this summer.
Mundo Deportivo report that if Cesc decides to move on from Camp Nou before the start of the new season then Herrera is the player Barca will move to sign.
Both Herrera and Cesc have two years remaining on their respective contracts but while Herrera is excited at the prospect of playing for Athletic in the Champions League, the criticism Fabregas received from a section of the Barca crowd could see him move on.
Herrera has a €36m release clause and Barca would have to activate it to get the 23-year-old away from San Mames.
He is said to be a fan of the Barca style and would welcome the chance to play with Andres Iniesta, but would stay at Athletic for next year if it was up to him.
Fabregas, meanwhile, could return to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Arsenal, his former club, monitoring the situation.
Barca could be open to a sale to help fund their summer rebuilding programme while Fabregas is more attractive to English clubs as he counts as a home-grown player due to his lengthy stay with the Gunners.
