Report: Barca overlook Reina

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Barcelona will be targeting other goalkeepers before trying to sign Pepe Reina.

The 32-year-old, who has been continuously linked with the Catalan giants over the last few years, seemed set to move to Camp Nou last summer, only for it to be decided that Victor Valdes would remain for another season.

However, with Valdes having now left the club, Barca’s search for a new number one will commence with haste.

The circumstances are said to have changed though, with the Spanish daily claiming that new Blaugrana Coach Luis Enrique has a set criteria of shot-stopper he wants.

While Reina is known to want to return to the club where he began his career, it seems Enrique has several other names he is prioritising over the Spanish international.

The latest developments add further uncertainty to Reina’s long term future. He has just completed a season long loan at Napoli and will now return to parent club Liverpool to discuss his next move.

However, with the Reds having signed Simon Mignolet as a long term prospect last summer, it seems unlikely he will remain at Anfield.
