Messi to sign contract after WC

Lionel Messi is set to sign his new Barcelona contract after the World Cup, according to reports in Spain this morning.

The Blaugrana superstar has agreed a new deal with the Catalan side, as was revealed last Friday.

But despite initial stories suggesting that pen would be put to paper before this summer’s tournament, Mundo Deportivo have claimed that the 26-year-old won’t rush into signing.

Messi leaves for international duty next Monday, but is happy to wait until mid-summer to finally extend at Camp Nou.

The new contract is set to see the Ballon d’Or winner become the highest-paid footballer on the planet, earning €20m per season.
