Beto proud to play for Sevilla

Sevilla goalkeeper Beto said he was proud to be a part of the club following their Europa League final triumph against Benfica.

The Portuguese shot-stopper proved to be the Rojiblancos’ hero on the night. As well as a string of saves during normal and extra time, he saved penalty kicks from both Oscar Cardozo and Rodrigo to ensure the trophy headed back to Andalusia for the third time.

Speaking to Spanish television immediately after the match, the 32-year-old said it was a dream come true.

“It was the final I dreamed about,” Beto commented. “It finished in the best way possible for Sevilla, not just for me.

“It is an honour to be part of this team and I dedicate this trophy to my father, who I am sure would have been very proud of me. I also dedicate it to my mother and son.

“I was saying to the goalkeeping coaches that all of us were going to be in that goalmouth together. I wanted to end the match because we were all tired, but I was confident.”
