Tata: Barca don’t deserve the title

Tata Martino has said Barcelona don’t deserve to win the League after the 2-2 home draw with Getafe.

An Angel Lafita brace gave El Geta a point, with Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez netting for Barca, to leave Martino’s side three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.

But with Atleti having a game in hand on Barca, La Blaugrana could by Sunday night be six points behind Diego Simeone’s side with two games to play – the last of which sees Barca host Atletico.

Real Madrid meanwhile have two games in hand on Barca and are three points behind the Catalans.

“We’ve already given everything we had to give in the League,” AS reports Martino as saying after the match.

“Obviously we wanted to have given more, but if we have been unable to win today then we didn’t deserve to reach the final day with more options.

“We’ve had moments in the match to make a difference and not suffer more until the final moments, as we have.

“Our chances were minimal and our objective was to stretch them to the maximum.

“The team was very good in passages and I think what we’ve done today merits the win. The balance is that it is not a good level or personal level for Barcelona this season.”

Martino was asked if he was happy at Barca, and he replied that results meant he couldn’t be.

“This is not happiness. We’re unable to achieve any trophy and at no time have we seen the best version of Barcelona this season,” Martino continued.

“I had the drive for that this season but we have been away from that level.

“[The Neymar issue] is an excuse when things don’t go well. I don’t like making excuses to avoid responsibility.

“Throughout the season we had deficits in several things. I think the year has had many ups and downs in many aspects of the game.

“I think that’s the secret. Of the three teams fighting in the League, we were the less consistent.”
