‘Penalty, Courtois & Costa decisive’

Jose Mourinho has said the penalty given to Atletico Madrid and the saves of Thibaut Courtois were vital in Los Colchoneros reaching the Champions League final.

Mourinho also pointed to Diego Costa as one of the game’s most important players.

Atletico beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the semi-final second-leg after a 0-0 draw in Madrid in the first encounter.

Mourinho told Canal+ after the game that the penalty was the turning point, while Courtois was the game’s crucial player.

“The penalty, and they told me it was, has been key. Until then they weren’t better. They have had a decisive goalkeeper and a decisive striker. Congratulations to Atletico,” Mourinho said, according to AS.

“Atletico deserve it. They’re a great team, a real team. I have respect for the team that eliminated me."
