Mourinho: Atletico are a good team

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has praised Atletico Madrid ahead of the Champions League semi-final second-leg between the sides.

Atletico travel to Stamford Bridge for tonight’s game with Real Madrid already confirmed in the final.

AS reports that at his pre-match Press conference, Mourinho – who dismissed critics of his tactics as ‘stupid’ and ‘philosophers’ – spoke kindly of Los Colchoneros.

“They are a good team. They’re not a counter-attacking team, they defend well and score goals,” the former Madrid Coach said.

“They win matches and they’re in the semi-finals of the Champions League. I think it’s fair to analyse them in this way and they are a good team.”

With the first-leg finishing 0-0, a score draw would see Atletico progress to meet Los Blancos. Mourinho was asked if he could ever see himself taking over at Vicente Calderon.

“My future is Chelsea and whenever Chelsea decide to end the relationship, I’ll decide then,” he replied.

“Atletico were my rival for three seasons. I always had a respectful relationship with the club. Anything with the fans is separate.

“I have great respect for any team that reaches the semi-finals. They deserve my respect.”
