Casillas: I’m happy for the fans

Iker Casillas has said he is happy to have reached a second final this season, but for the Real Madrid fans more than himself.

Casillas has been Madrid’s Cup goalkeeper in this campaign, starting in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

Madrid have already won the former competition and reached the final of the latter on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Bayern Munich.

AS reports that Casillas said after the match it is what reaching the final means for the Madrid supporters that pleases him most of all.

“I’m very happy, but not for me. I’m happy for my fellow Madrid fans. What we have to do now is it enjoy,” Casillas said.

“The team has been very strong. We’ve had look, good fortune, and now the joy of providing a Champions League final to our fans.

“Bayern are the champions. The people weren’t wrong [to make them favourites]. You had to respect them.

“We’ve been within touching distance of the final three times so it had to be the fourth.

“The team was very focused and solid to the end. I think we are deserved winners of the semi-final.

“We can’t look to the past, we have to look at the present and enjoy the moment, which is wonderful.

“And now we focus on the League. Even though we depend on others we will fight until the end.”
