Pep: Tito was more than a friend

Pep Guardiola has admitted that the sadness he feels over Tito Vilanova’s death ‘will accompany me my whole life’.

Vilanova passed away on Friday evening after the 45-year-old lost his lengthy battle with cancer.

He was assistant to Guardiola during their record-breaking years at Camp Nou, and took over from the former Spain international in 2012.

“Tito was more than a friend,” he told reporters after Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday. “It was difficult to focus on the game today.

“The sadness I feel for Tito will accompany me for my whole life.

“From here I want to send my deepest condolences to his family. We lived through a lot together.

“We won together, we lost together. This is difficult for me and for everyone.”
