Mourinho to rest Chelsea players in PL

Jose Mourinho will sacrifice Chelsea’s Premier League game with Liverpool to prepare for the Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid.

Mourinho suggested after the first-leg goalless draw that he would protect his most important players against the Reds in an effort to ensure they are ready for the visit of Atletico on Wednesday.

That’s despite Chelsea still having a chance of catching League leaders Liverpool in the Division’s remaining games.

But the British Press has reported that Mourinho’s superiors have agreed to the Coach’s plan to name an XI made up of second-choice players as he doesn’t feel the Blues can win the title.

Petr Cech and John Terry will miss the game against Atleti due to injury while Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel are suspended.

The Daily Mail points out that during his time as Real Madrid Coach, Mourinho was critical of Manuel Preciado for making eight changes against Barcelona.

“You can’t do this in England because you get punished. A team shouldn’t give a game away cheaply,” Mourinho protested at the time.
