Barca VP: Copa defeat not Tata’s end

A Barcelona Vice-president has said that the club won’t sack Tata Martino or call elections for a new President if they lose the Copa del Rey final.

Barca play Real Madrid tonight in the showpiece at Valencia’s Mestalla and Jordi Cardoner has told Catalonian radio that not everything is resting on the game.

“If we lose the Cup, we don’t forsake Tata or convene elections,” Mundo Deportivo reports Cardoner as saying.

Cardoner also touched on the FIFA-imposed transfer ban and recent criticism of Lionel Messi.

“I hope [the transfer ban] is resolved in favour of the club so we can do business normally,” Cardoner said.

“[Recent criticism] is disrespectful to Messi for his generosity and greatness.

“He’s the best in the world and he has the humility and the values we transmit as a club. I’m sure after the final the comments will be different.”
