Barcelona and Lionel Messi are a step closer to agreeing a contract extension, it has been revealed.
Marca report this afternoon that the Blaugrana and the Argentine superstar are nearing a new deal which would see the Ballon d’Or winner earn €20m per season.
The record-breaking goalscorer had been reticent to pen an extension after the club warned that they wanted 50 per cent of the player’s image rights.
However, the Camp Nou outfit’s negotiators have backed down from the stance, and will let Messi keep all of the money earned from endorsements and advertising.
The paper believes that a contract is likely to be signed in May.
