Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has said Diego Simeone has told the players to go out and achieve more than a win over Barcelona.

The Catalans were defeated in the Champions League quarter-final and speaking after the match, Gabi revealed the comments of El Cholo.

“The Coach congratulated us but told us to keep working because we have not achieved anything and titles are played later in the season,” AS reports the midfielder as saying.

“What we have achieved is an identity and a game that infects people but, having come to this point, we want more.”

Gabi added that the win was for the players and supporters alike, and that while the players are tired, they’ll keep going.

“All of Atletico are celebrating victory. We came together and started working for this a long time ago,” Gabi said.

“The legs run on their own and if people fail it encourages you, gives you the final push.

“The game had a great rhythm and it was very demanding, but the team knows what to do.”
