Gabi: A very important victory

Gabi believes Atletico Madrid’s win over Real Betis was crucial and was pleased to have scored the game’s opening goal.

It was the Atletico captain’s first of the season and put Los Colchoneros on the way to a 2-0 win, with Diego Costa getting the second goal.

Both of Atleti’s goals came after Betis were reduced to 10 men when Braian Rodriguez was dismissed, a decision Gabi thought was correct.

“Betis played well and caused us trouble in the first half and the beginning of the second but with the sending off, which I think was fair, we’ve improved,” the midfielder told reporters.

“We knew that Betis were going to be strong at home and they would be a major rival because the League doesn’t show how you’re doing.

“We’re worthy of staying at the top of the League and our victory was fair. We had to work hard.

“We’re working to be among the best teams in the final nine games and they are there to be win,” Gabi continued.

“We’re doing well and our results are worth noticing. The secret is unity, we’re a team and we all play the same way. We’re ambitious for great things.”

Gabi added that Atletico are wary of Barcelona, their opponents on the final weekend.

“Barcelona are very powerful, but the team is trained to fight.”
