Alba sure Barca deserved win

Jordi Alba is in no doubt that Barcelona deserved their win over Real Madrid on Sunday night.

A Lionel Messi hat-trick delivered the points for La Blaugrana, who are now a point behind Los Blancos.

Atletico Madrid lead the way from their city rivals by virtue of their better head-to-head record.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Alba insisted Barca deserved to take the points.

“It was a really emotional game. We’re deserving winners,” the left back said.

“We started well but then they were in front. We reacted well and got an important win.

“We’ve had a lot of the ball, we stuck together, pressed well and did a lot of damage in attack.”

The game was a controversial one with referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco giving three penalties, sending off Sergio Ramos and drawing the ire of both Cristiano Ronaldo and the dismissed Ramos.

Alba however felt that while it was an unusual sight to see so many spot kicks, the referee has to be respected.

“You have to respect the decisions of the referee and what he decides. But it’s not normal for there to be so many penalties in the Clasico,” Alba added.

With Barca playing Atletico on the final day of the season Alba expects the title race to go the distance, but warned every game before then is equally important for Barca, Real and Atletico.

“There are a lot of finals to be played for all three teams. This win gives us a lot to keep going,” Alba said.
