‘No danger of Messi leaving’

Barcelona’s economic Vice-President Javier Faus has insisted that Lionel Messi is in ‘no danger’ of leaving the club.

Reports have circulated in recent weeks that the Blaugrana were struggling to tie the record-breaking goalscorer to a new deal.

But the board member has tried to calm fans’ nerves by claiming that the Argentina international will stay.

“Leo is not in danger of leaving," he told RAC1.

“[President] Josep Maria Bartomeu said it, he said it and all of the directors have said it. He wants and we want to continue together."

Faus also rubbished suggestions that Tata Martino would be shown the exit door in the summer, after coming in for some criticism from media and fans.

"The club are not aware that he is leaving in June. We are working with the idea that he will continue at the club next season.”
