Franz Beckenbauer has criticised the style of play employed by Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, warning no one wants to see Bayern play like Barcelona.
Beckenbauer, Bayern’s life President, was speaking on German television after Bayern knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League with a 3-1 win on aggregate.
He compared Guardiola’s current side with his former employers – and wasn’t complimentary in doing so.
“We’ll be like Barcelona. No one wants to see that,” Beckenbauer said.
“These players would pass the ball to the goal line if they could.
“My view is different. If I have the chance to shoot on goal from midfield, especially with a crowded defence, then I do.
“It’s the most effective way, although I grant the players their right to do it their way, 100%.”
