Atletico Madrid midfielder Diego has said Barcelona’s defeat to Real Valladolid wasn’t on the players’ minds against Celta Vigo.
A David Villa brace gave Atleti three points to go ahead of La Blaugrana and after the match, the Brazilian was asked by reporters if Barca’s defeat was the motivation Atletico needed.
“We were focused on our game,” Diego replied.
“It was very complicated and hard to find the win, so we did well.”
The on-loan Diego added that he personally feels very good physically after returning to Vicente Calderon in January.
“I’m fine. I’m playing more and more minutes and there are things you can only get in games, not training.
“I feel great in the team too and I think we’re going in the right direction.
“We know what we have to do. We have to continue to think like every game is a final and we have to take them game by game.
“Diego Costa is of indisputable quality and whether we win with him or not we know his importance.
“But if not we have to find other solutions. We have a team of great quality, with spectacular players, such as Villa, who did very well today.”
