Henry: Puyol welcome in MLS

Thierry Henry has said his former Barcelona teammate Carles Puyol would feel welcomed if he followed him to the United States.

Henry moved to New York Red Bulls after leaving Camp Nou and Puyol announced this week that he would be moving on from Barca at the end of the season.

“We must respect his decision and we have to enjoy the last few months he has in the Barca shirt,” Sport reports Henry as saying about Puyol.

“His decision is an example of his respect for the team and the club.

“Puyol always trains like he plays. He goes all out,” Henry added.

Asked for his most vivid memory of playing with Puyol, Henry referred to the 6-2 win over Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

“When he scored the header and kissed the armband…it was a very special moment. It’s not surprising he’s admired by Madrid fans too,” Henry said.

“If he wants to come and play in the United States he’ll be very welcome,” Henry continued.

“He would be great for this League. It is always good to have players like him.

“Puyol is a very intelligent and reliable man who already knows what he wants.”
