Bartomeu ‘very pleased’ with Martino

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted that despite Press reports to the contrary there is no plan for Tata Martino’s departure.

It was claimed on Wednesday that sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta had drawn up a shortlist of candidates should Martino leave Camp Nou earlier than expected.

But speaking on Spanish television, Bartomeu stressed there was no thought at the club that Martino could move on.

“We are very pleased with Tata,” Bartomeu said.

“We aren’t considering that he doesn’t stay.

“I’m not endorsing anyone else. We want to renew him for another season.

“Tata engages and speaks well. We thank him for his work.”

Bartomeu reiterated that he has been impressed by Barca under Martino and said that he wasn’t unduly concerned by the defeat to Real Sociedad last weekend.

“The league isn’t earned in February,” Bartomeu added.

“These players have shown they can be in every final. There are options in all three competitions.

“They also have bad games,” he conceded.
