Ancelotti looking for Schalke repeat

Carlo Ancelotti wants Real Madrid to put in a performance of similar quality to the win over Schalke against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Madrid hammered Schalke 6-1 on Wednesday night and face Atleti at Vicente Calderon this weekend, going into the derby with a three-point lead over Los Colchoneros.

“The entire squad feels good, the players are fresh,” Ancelotti told his post-match Press conference.

“There may be changes but it’s hard to change the players when you’re playing so well. I hope to repeat today’s performance in the derby.”

The goals arrived courtesy of two each from Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, the trio dubbed ‘BBC’ by the Spanish Press.

“The three of them all scored and did well,” Ancelotti said of Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo.

“All three were very good in attack but they also helped out their teammates.

“I’m satisfied with everything – it was a perfect match.

“My players did very well together. It was fantastic and difficult. Everything went our way.”

Ancelotti added that talk pre-match of a German curse – so-named due to Madrid’s poor record in Germany – was never on his mind.

“We never thought of a German curse, rather that we must do our best to win and resolve the tie as soon as possible.

“We must respect the fans and the opposition. There is a return leg and football can be very strange.

“We have a great advantage but we still have to play.”
