‘Villarreal and Celta are similar’

Villarreal Coach Marcelino believes there are a lot of similarities between his side and their Saturday opponents Celta Vigo.

The two teams are separated by six places and 14 points but in Celta Marcelino sees a resemblance to the Yellow Submarine.

“Celta have a team very similar to ours, with dynamic and attacking football,” Marcelino told his pre-match Press conference.

“They have changed some things, though. They’re more direct than at the start of the season but they have great attacking potential and quality players. They’re also in good form.”

Villarreal have picked up a number of injuries of late, with all areas of the team afflicted, but Marcelino has faith in his squad to cope.

“We have several casualties. It’s just happened that recently we’re getting injuries everywhere in the team.

“But I’m sure we have enough depth to replace the ones we’re missing, but it’s true we have a lot of injuries now.”

Marcelino confirmed his faith in goalkeeper Juan Carlos to replace first choice Sergio Asenjo and added it was a case of wait and see with regards to the fitness of Cani, who may need knee surgery.

The Coach also paid tribute to Francisco Javier Farinos, who announced his retirement last week.

“It hurt us all that Farinos was forced to retire,” Marcelino revealed.

“We’ve all seen the effort he’s made and his enthusiasm to get back playing. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

“He was an important player and helped us a lot.

“He’s a great professional and we wish him all the best. He knows he has friends here.”
