Osasuna rue defensive errors

Osasuna Coach Javi Gracia pointed the figure at mistakes in the defence after losing 3-1 to Villarreal on Monday.

A Jeremy Perbet brace and one from Manu Trigueros gave the Yellow Submarine three points, with Oriol Riera scoring late on for the visitors.

Osasuna remain only two points clear of the bottom three, in 16th position.

“We started the game well,” Gracia told a post-match Press conference.

“We were doing a good job defensively, although it’s true we didn’t get near our opponents’ box.

“Then we had the clearest chance of the game so we were going well.

“But in the second-half the long ball caused us problems and the ease they had in getting to our goal made things more difficult.

“We tried to make it 3-2 in the final minutes but we couldn’t.”

Gracia added that Osasuna went to El Madrigal with a game plan but were unable to execute it fully.

“We tried to play a good game and win, like we did against Sevilla.

“To win here shouldn’t be taken for granted and you have to take the few chances you get.

“We opted for a balanced game that would still give us chances to score but we weren’t able to make it happen.

“But against Getafe, surely we’ll be better.”

Gracia concluded by commending the goal scored by Riera.

“Oriol scored a great goal and we’re glad to have a great goal scorer like him.

“Today he did a great job and I’m sure he’ll score many more before the end of the season.”
