‘Atleti never left my heart’

New Atletico Madrid midfielder Diego has admitted that the capital club ‘never left’ his heart.

The Brazilian playmaker re-joined the Vicente Calderon outfit during the January window on loan until the end of the season.

And after his goal on Sunday in a 4-0 win over Real Sociedad, the attacker admitted it was a dream to find the back of the net.

“I prepared a lot for this moment. I left Atletico, but Atletico never left my heart,” he told reporters after the game.

“Whenever possible I saw the matches, because I have a special affection for this club. I hoped to start well, but winning as we win and scoring is wonderful, I'm very happy about that.

“It is hard to put into words the feeling I have. This leaves me very happy, I try to contribute to the field and is what I will do until the end.”

With the win, Atleti went above Real Madrid and Barcelona and straight to the top of the League.

“There is no reason to think otherwise. We must stay focused on the next match, and Real Madrid come in the cup, we start preparing tomorrow we will begin to prepare for the meeting.

“The base of the team does not change. It is a pleasure to come back and find a winning team, but we have to think game by game.

“We the group of players, the fans are playing in all competitions at the highest level.”
