Mata impresses on Man Utd debut

Spain international Juan Mata caught the eye on his Manchester United debut, drawing praise from manager David Moyes.

Mata completed a £37.1m (€45m) switch from Chelsea to United last week and made his first start for the Premier League champions against Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

United won the game 2-0 through goals from Robin van Persie and Ashley Young.

“I thought Juan played well,” Moyes said after the match.

“He made some terrific passes for us. He gave us a different look about us at times.

“He will grow and we will get used to him as well.

“Everybody knows what he is capable of and when we are in full flow and we are playing as well as we can, then he will be a big help to us.”

For his part, Mata revealed he was excited at the prospect of playing with van Persie and Wayne Rooney, who entered the game as a substitute.

“I enjoyed it,” Mata said.

“It was a very, very special day for me.

“My first game, my debut, two goals and a victory, so it was perfect.

“We are talking about two of the best strikers in the world and it's going to be amazing to play alongside them.”
