Arturo Vidal has said he feels there are no midfielders at his level, not even Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
The Juventus player was speaking to German publication Sport Bild and his comments were picked up by Mundo Deportivo, who describe them as “startling”.
“It’s simple: In my position I’m the best in the world,” Vidal said.
Sport Bild initially invited Vidal to compare himself to the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira, the Germany internationals.
Vidal then ventured the names of Xavi and Iniesta, who he says are considered the best midfielders in the world, and asserted that in fact, he was the best.
“There are many players who try to play like me in that position, copying me a little bit,” the Chile international continued.
“But I keep saying it, I’m the best in my position because no one can defend like me and score as many goals as I do.”
