Sevilla to open Rakitic talks

Sevilla sporting director Monchi is to hold talks with the agent of Ivan Rakitic before travelling to London.

Monchi leaves for England on Sunday and Marca reports he will spend much of the next few months travelling back and forth.

The trip is designed to give Sevilla an insight into how Premier League clubs are organised and establish stronger links with the country.

But before he departs, Monchi has to handle the future of both Rakitic and Diego Perotti, who has emerged as a target for Monaco.

Monchi will speak with Dejan Rakitic, the brother of the Sevilla captain, about extending Rakitic’s contract at the club.

In exchange for a lengthier deal, Sevilla will agree to increase the player’s salary substantially and lower his release clause by as much as 40%. It currently stands at €40m.

Rakitic has made clear he would prefer to stay at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, saying after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid that he likes playing in Sevilla “today, tomorrow and forever.”

Perotti meanwhile has turned down an approach from Shakhtar Donetsk, while talk of a move back to Argentina with Boca Juniors has come to nothing.

Sevilla are open to letting Perotti go but only if the deal works for them.
