Ramos praises Ancelotti chemistry

Sergio Ramos has spoken highly of Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti, describing him as a good fit for the club.

In an interview with FIFA’s website Ramos praised the former Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss, crediting Ancelotti with a thorough understanding of how to deal with players.

“The Coach has an enviable résumé,” Ramos said, “For all that he’s won and how well he knows football.

“He connects with players, so there is a lot of chemistry with him and he gets along well with the squad.”

Ancelotti won the Champions League with Milan in 2003 and 2007 but Madrid have not claimed the trophy since 2002.

Ramos added that the Champions League is a competition both he and the club as a whole are eager to win.

“It’s a competition we have special affection for,” the defender said.

“But we’ve gone many years without getting it.

“We do want it more than any other competition but to obsess about it would be a mistake.

“We have to go step by step. Get to the semi-finals like we did last year and then you’re one step from the end.

“If we can win it from there then even better.”

Ramos also said that he feels successful teams are built on their defence, but conceded that can’t always be the case considering the players in Madrid’s squad.

“The key to the success of a team is defensive stability.

“But perhaps we leave fewer back with the players we have. They like to get forward and create chances.”
