Madrid move for Rooney?

Real Madrid have been linked with a summer approach for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The British Press claims Madrid will pay United £25m (€30.3m) for the England international.

Madrid are alleged to have pin-pointed Rooney as their summer purchase as they believe he will be easier to sign than their first choice target, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, formerly of Atletico Madrid.

United have been clear in their determination to hold on to Rooney in the face of interest from Chelsea but the player has yet to agree a new contract.

Rooney’s deal will enter its final 12 months this summer and United could be forced to reconsider their position.

Madrid have also considered the likes of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Radamel Falcao, another former Atleti forward, now at Monaco.

But Rooney is thought by Florentino Perez to be both the most likely and most cost effective option.

Suarez is under a long-term deal at Anfield and Falcao would command a significantly higher fee having only moved to the principality last summer for €62m.
