Bernabeu crowd whistles Di Maria

Angel Di Maria’s name was whistled by the Santiago Bernabeu crowd when it was announced before Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey win over Osasuna.

Di Maria was a substitute for the 2-0 victory but was jeered by his own supporters pre-match, AS reports.

The Argentina winger was accused of making an offensive gesture involving his genitals after being substituted against Celta Vigo on Monday.

Madrid investigated the incident, finding that Di Maria did not intend to offend anyone and would therefore face no punishment.

A section of the 60,000 supporters in Madrid’s home stadium made their feelings clear towards the 25-year-old, who was dropped in favour of Jese.

Di Maria explained on Madrid’s club TV channel that he was simply making a “natural gesture any man makes, especially when you have been running.”
