Defence the key for Diego Lopez

Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez maintained that defence had been the key to Monday night’s 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring on 67 minutes before Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brace late on to calm the nerves at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“It was difficult because they played very well but keeping a clean sheet was the key to the game,” he told reporters post-match.

“Celta are a very workmanlike team who are tight in defence and create problems up front.

“Even so, we had the necessary patience to get to the break at 0-0 then score our goals in the second half.

“We knew how to keep our shape because they could have killed us on the counter-attack, but our attackers always score goals.”
