Javier Mascherano has labelled Lionel Messi’s recovery from injury as ‘fantastic’ and is optimistic that he can return to his best soon.
The 26-year-old is due to return to training for Barcelona at the start of January, alongside his teammates, after almost two months on the sidelines with a torn hamstring.
For his teammate both at club and international level, Messi’s recovery remains on track.
“I have spoken to Leo during his injury. I know that he is fine, he has made a fantastic recovery,” Mascherano has told TyC Sports this week.
“We are waiting for his return with open arms, both in Barcelona and with the national team, as he is important in both cases.
“The thing that makes him happy is being on the pitch, so hopefully he can get comfortable quickly.
“Hopefully everyone can reach [the World Cup] healthy and can be at their best version after a long season.”
