Iniesta plays down Messi/Faus spat

Andres Iniesta has played down the recent war of words between Lionel Messi and Barcelona Vice-President Javier Faus.

The board member claimed earlier this month that there was no need for the Catalan club to renew the forward’s contract.

However, after the Argentine record-breaker took exception to that comment, the Spain international has insisted that the remarks were ‘said without meaning’.

“Sometimes things are said without thinking or without meaning to cause hurt,” he told La Sexta.

“Messi is a fundamental player. He is for me, and for the club too.”

Iniesta then commented on his recent contract extension at Camp Nou.

“I went to the signing with my parents and my daughter,” he said. “I thought about a lot and I was the proudest person in the world. My dream is to be able to end my career at Barça.”
