Martinez: No WC certainties

Javi Martinez has conceded that he will have to be at the top of his game if he’s to make the Spain squad for the World Cup.

The midfielder has become one of Bayern Munich’s key players since signing from Athletic Bilbao last summer.

But the 25-year-old has admitted that it’s not a foregone conclusion that he will be on the plane to Brazil.

“Spain count on great players, all of them going through a great moment and you can't relax,” he told AS.

“You know that someone else is looking for their chance.

“Footballers always play to win titles whether they've already won one or not. In my case I always want more.”

The Roja international is suffering from a shoulder injury at the moment, but hopes to return soon.

"I'm recovering. Against Hamburg I managed to rest, but I already have my mind set on returning to play soon.”
