Official: Valencia sack Djukic

Valencia have confirmed that Miroslav Djukic has been sacked as Coach, after less than six months in charge, as he reacts: “It is a decision I do understand.”

The 47-year-old was only appointed in the summer as Ernesto Valverde’s replacement, but has endured a difficult period in charge, with a poor start in La Liga culminating in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid.

With it being the club’s eighth of the season already in the League, leaving them in joint ninth place, they have taken action today.

“We are here to announce the removal of Miroslav Djukic. For my part, I have nothing more to say,” Amadeo Salvo stated at an evening Press conference, in confirming the decision to remove Djukic, after only 23 games in charge.

The Serb will be replaced in the interim by a caretaker Coach, Nico Estevez, while the club make a decision on a permanent appointment. Juan Antonio Pizzi and Luis Milla, both with a playing past at Mestalla, are being listed as possible candidates to come in.

“As a professional it is a decision that I do not understand, but I respect it,” former Real Valladolid boss Djukic offered next at this evening’s conference.

“I wish good luck to the President and to the union of everyone to take the club forward.”

General manager Rufete was also present at the announcement: “I thank Djukic for the effort and work he has done for the club that we are defending.

“It is a tough day for everyone. We have to start working if possible with greater speed. After a start in which we had much confidence, football can present such situations.
