Alonso-Madrid talks ‘step by step’

Xabi Alonso has reportedly indicated to Real Madrid that he will only talk through a new contract ‘step by step’, but that there is cause for optimism.

The 32-year-old is out of contract next summer and has so far held off on entering into talks with Los Blancos over an extension.

AS believe that whilst Madrid President Florentino Perez and CEO Jose Angel Sanchez have made clear to the player their desire for him to sign on, official negotiations and economic terms have yet to be tabled due to the player’s position.

However, it is also understood that the player has reciprocated in assuring that even after January 1 when he can officially talk to other interested clubs, he does not intend to do so immediately, as he is in ‘no hurry’.

Alonso, who is subsequently seen as ready to ignore advances from Chelsea and Juventus, has apparently informed those close to him that he is overwhelmed for recent support in the Spanish capital and AS conclude that a renewal with Madrid looks to be on the right track, even if it comes well into 2014.
