‘Mel’s exit is players’ fault’

Salva Sevilla has mused that the Real Betis players are the reason Pepe Mel was sacked as Coach, as he reflects on life under Juan Carlos Garrido.

Los Beticos dispatched with Mel at the start of last week, replacing him with former Villarreal boss Garrido, with the club say bottom of La Liga.

For the side’s 29-year-old midfielder, scrutiny should not be just on the Coach’s position at the Benito Villamarin.

“It is not nice because nobody likes to be in these situations,” Sevilla has mused to reporters this week.

“If a Coach is going, it is because the players have not done well.

“We are the biggest culprits for what has happened. Hopefully things can improve and the team reacts.

“Garrido’s impact? We have had little time with him. He has a similar way of working to how we were with Pepe Mel.

“The important thing is that we improve the results because so far we have not succeeded.

“Are we more motivated now? It is not so that we are more motivated now than before.

“Whenever a new Coach arrives, some that have not played a lot, because not everyone can, they have hopes renewed. In training things are going well.”
