Zidane: Cristiano is monstrous

Zinedine Zidane has described Cristiano Ronaldo’s current form as ‘monstrous’, and reflected on how he believes Brazilians see him, in relation to France 98.

The Real Madrid assistant Coach is in Brazil and will be one of the World Cup’s former winners to assist FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke in Friday’s group stage draw.

Ahead of that was a Press conference, in which the 41-year-old reflected on a number of things, including handing his nation a tough group for the competition.

“I am not concerned by a possible group of death,” Zidane responded to reporters this week.

“We hope that France will face the best and we hope that they will go as far as possible. I have no fear of having to face tough teams.

“For the French squad I would like them to have a challenging group so we don’t feel we are going to play against small teams at the beginning.”

Zidane was asked how he feels he is viewed in Brazil, in light of playing a key part in defeating the nation in the 1998 World Cup Final.

“The 1998 World Cup is one of the sweetest memories of my life, but I do think that the Brazilians hate me. Every time I come to Brazil I am welcomed with love.”

Zidane also had time to reflect on Madrid’s in form forward Ronaldo.

“What he does on the field is monstrous. He is wonderful.

“And the way he led Portugal against Sweden, when many believed Portugal would not win, it shows that he is an excellent player.

“He is an example for all who train with him. He is a great professional.”
