Garcia has Girona respect

Luis Garcia has warned Getafe that they have ‘two examples’ to keep in mind ahead of facing Girona in the Copa del Rey.

The Madrid outfit this Saturday make the trip out to their Round of 32 Segunda Division opponents with their Coach wary of what awaits.

“I have seen two games of Girona’s, whilst my assistant Coach [Pedro Rostoll] has also seen them and passed on to me his conclusions,” Garcia has explained this week to reporters.

“They are a team that always looks to deliver the ball in play, in attack they have quality players and although they are in the Segunda, we have respect and we have to go there with the utmost humility to progress.

“We have two examples to follow in approaching this game. One bad one is the friendly against Alcorcon, where we were relaxed, unmotivated, and the other example is like in last year’s Cup [against Ponferradina].

“I am not saying we are going to win 4-0 like we did then, but we went into that game motivated and focused.

“Theoretically, to be in the Primera Division, we must be a level above Girona, but we have respect, values and are humble.”

For Getafe, the incentive to progress is a meeting with the winner between Cartagena and Barcelona.

“When we progress, in theory, we could be playing with Barcelona and that is an incentive. But we have to think about Girona, in order to face them and write a nice page.”
