Messi returning to Argentina

Barcelona have communicated that Lionel Messi will be flying out to Argentina on Friday to continue recovery from injury.

The 26-year-old sustained a 6cm tear in the back of his left thigh whilst in action for the Catalans against Real Betis just over two weeks ago.

Ruled out for a period of six to eight weeks, the player was set a course of recovery split between initial work at Barca’s training facilities at the Ciutat Esportiva and a second phase in Buenos Aires.

Today has seen the Blaugrana communicate that to the determined schedule, the forward has completed his recovery work in Barcelona and tomorrow will fly out to Argentina under the supervision of club medical services.

Barca state that Dr Ricard Pruna and physio Elvio Paulorroso will be travelling out to the South American country in mid-December to ‘oversee the final stages of his recuperation’.

The club also report that recent tests on Messi indicate that his recovery programme is going as planned.
